Real-World Applications

Many of our most interesting custom projects cannot be shared publicly. We regularly work with customers in industries where non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and confidentiality requirements prevent us from sharing project details or photographs.

One example involved a customer welding deep inside a valve body. The application required a custom TIG cup that would allow the use of a full-length tungsten while maintaining excellent shielding gas coverage. The customer also wanted to ride the cup against the bottom of the valve body while keeping the tungsten slightly recessed inside the cup to reduce the risk of contaminating the tungsten in a low-visibility environment.

To accomplish this, we modified one of our Laminar Flow XX-Tended reach cups from high-temperature quartz and machined an angled opening across part of the face. This allowed the cup to be placed directly on the valve body floor while providing a clear path for the filler wire to enter through the side port in the valve body and into the weld puddle. The result was improved visibility, better control of the tungsten, and a practical solution to a welding challenge that could not be solved with a standard TIG cup.
